Today I woke up in a "fog", have you ever felt like that? I am not sure if it was just not feeling well or I was having "one of those" days dealing with depression. Although I am doing so much better, those days still creep up on me. I decided today that I wasn't going to let it control my day, my husband was off and I just knew I wanted to have a nice day at home. In efforts not to let the "fog" of depression control me, I set down with the bible study "Before I go" By Sara Knoontz. I had been over it a few times before, but I looked at the scriptures on my phone rather than opening my bible. I am more of a technology person but I am finding my self-craving more books and fewer screens. Today when I set down with my bible, my eyes missed the book of John in the table of contents. I found John 1, John 2, and John 3 but somehow my brain missed John. I felt myself growing frustrated because I wasn't able to find the scripture I was looking for even though I have read in the book of John before. As I was growing impatient setting and staring at my bible wondering what I was missing and what was wrong with my brain, I asked Jesus to please help me. I walked away for a few minutes. When I got back to reading I flipped some pages over trying to make my way back to the table of contents to see what I was missing. The pages my bible landed on where right in the middle of the book of John.
It reminded me of the invitation that Jesus set out (day one of the study) long before I was born despite all of my flaws and imperfections. I love how Sara words make me visualize what receiving an invitation from Jesus. We get excited over receiving mail but we have forgotten to be excited about Jesus invitation to heaven. I was reminded in a moment to receive Gods blessings big and small, even in the middle of chaos. I love how Sara said it "Jesus promises to send the much-needed help of the holy spirit". At that moment, I was sent much-needed help. No matter how big or small your prayers are I can assure you that they are being heard. Like the quote in the study says " He comforts us when we are confused" and at that moment I was confused.
I love how she brings up a popular movie that has an underlining message that world peace is the answer, like her I respectfully disagree. The answer to genuine peace is inside your heart because true peace is accepting Jesus into our lives. I love that Sara not only tells you that Jesus is the answer to true peace but she directions you where to go to watch a video and pray so that you can accept Jesus into your life. Before getting baptized with my husband on our anniversary I actually went to the site and watch the video. It is a wonderful one for anyone to watch, but especially new believers.
I love how she compared trimming back your garden to help it flourish in the way God prunes some of the branches in our lives. Sometimes he "prunes" things from our lives that will help us in the future, only at the moment it doesn't feel like it's the best thing for us. The visuals really help me grasp what the scripture is saying in a different way. Sometimes you have to take a step back and try to see things the way God does.
I believe that Satan tricks us into wondering how Jesus could have such a never-ending love for us. After the seed of doubt gets planted it starts to grow our hearts start to move further away from Jesus. We begin to lose faith and start believing the Lies of the enemy because we are simply too preoccupied. As Sara explains in her study, people will hate us because of our love for Jesus. We live in a world that is more grey than black and white, and her study serves as a reminder that the truth of the Bible will always be the right way. Sometimes I need the reminder, we fall in the trap satan puts down for us because it's so easy to brush sin off because of 2018. We have grown to tolerate sin rather than stand on the truth of the bible.
I am the worst at sometimes forgetting to pray, I fall asleep during the middle of night time prayers and at dinner sometimes we have taken a few bites before we remember to pray. I sometimes question myself if my prayers are bold enough, but then again what if they are too bold. I love how Jesus reminds us that Jesus was a man of prayer. Prayer is a direct connection to God, prayer is better than any connection we might find online. We have to take time to establish this connection and Sara's study does just that, she helps us learn more about God. Her study has helped me get the courage to pray more significant prayers because I am taking the time to get to understand God on a more intimate level.
We all can be set free from our burdens, troubles and hurts because Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for us. This study is a beautiful reminder that the truth will set you free and transform your life. It is up to use to share the word of God in hopes that many more lives will be changed. We have to say bold prayers so that God will help us have the courage to spread the good news of Jesus with the world.
We have to trust and lean on Jesus last words because he can remove the "fog" in front of your eyes to, much like he did mine in a small moment today. This bible study really helped me understand more about Jesus, starting from the beginning of why Jesus was put on earth and ending with his final teaching.
I love how she ends each day with an action point and questions so that you can really dig into scripture each day along with the study, it gets your mind thinking while your faith is growing. This study really stirred something up in my heart and I can't wait to see what comes from it.
They are Short daily studies that you can do within 20 minutes but you can always spend more time digging a little deeper if you feel lead to. The study is completely free, 5 days a week you will get an email with the daily devotional and 2 days a week you will take off to rest. I received this study in advance so I could write a review for it in a timely fashion. All the thoughts are my own, the study is absolutely amazing.
